Description

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an international recognized English test. Over 1.6 million candidates take the test each year to help with university applications, job applications as well as visa applications for immigration and visa permits. The IELTS is accepted by more than 8,000 institutions / organizations in over 135 countries.

Is it right for me?

The IELTS is an internationally recognized qualification and entry requirement for universities in the U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, the U.S. and Canada. It is also widely used by governments as a language proficiency guide when issuing work visas and is accepted by various professional organizations.

What does it test?

You have a choice of two versions of IELTS: Academic or General Training. Everybody takes the same Listening and Speaking components. It is the Reading and Writing components that differ. You will take the Listening, Reading and Writing tests all on the same day one after the other, with no breaks in between them. Your Speaking test will either be after a break on the same day, or up to seven days before or after that. This will depend on your test centre.

How is it tested?

Candidates receive scores on a Band Scale from 1 to 9. A profile score is reported for each skill. The four individual scores are averaged and rounded to produce an Overall Band Score. Overall Band Scores and scores for each sub-test (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking) are reported in whole bands or half bands. The length of the tests is as follows:
Section Time allowed
Listening 30 minutes
Reading 60 minutes
Writing 60 minutes
Speaking 10 to 15 minutes
