Year 7-10

Psychology is said to be the study of our mental functions and behaviour. How do we process ideas? Why do we act a certain way? Through our Psychology Programme for Years 7-10, we help students gain an appreciation for understanding how they are thinking and functioning beings. They do this by examining the history of psychology and the various approaches that have enriched this discipline. They learn from different psychologists who have laid the groundwork for how we currently understand ourselves. By doing that they should then be able to relate what they’ve learned to their own experiences.

Students are also exposed to cutting-edge research on psychology so they are kept abreast of the current findings on this field. We focus their learning on the different core areas of psychology, such as cognitive psychology, social psychology, etc. and also how psychology relates to and affects other fields such as health, education, and the environment.

Our Psychology Programme covers the following key areas, depending on the student’s Year/Level:

  • Cognitive Psychology
  • Social Psychology
  • Physiological Psychology
  • Developmental Psychology
  • Psychology of Individual Differences
  • Educational Psychology
  • Health Psychology
  • Organisational Psychology
  • Environmental Psychology
  • Abnormal Psychology

Teaching Methodology

The study of psychology is invariably linked to a study of history. Our tutors help the students reach back to the past all the way to the present, tracing and tracking the development and evolution of psychological thought along the way. They are taught to look at the various concepts and theories analytically and critically so they can examine for themselves the validity of each psychological assertion. Tutors are able to do this by fostering group or one-to-one discussions, group work/projects, research assignments, etc. Our Psychology programme also includes case studies and biographical research on notable psychologists who have made lasting contributions to the field.
